“Focus” is the key to success, not perfection. You might have heard the phrase, “Jack of all trades, master of none”. It’s great to be skilled in a variety of talents but at times this results in not being accomplished or polished in any single thing. Ask yourself: Do I want to be a generalist rather than a specialist? There are limitless advantages to being focused but one of the greatest advantages is progress. Improving focus helps you to develop tremendous expertise and grow much faster.
We all want to maintain our focus but sometimes, it is one of the most difficult things to do. Here’s how staying in your own lane can increase your net worth:
1. You cannot be everywhere all the time. Take note of how much time you are spending doing things that don’t matter. Take notice of what causes you to lose focus and remember your purpose.
2. You can’t possibly succeed when you never give focus to any one thing long enough. If you’re attention is split between many different interests, it will become increasingly hard to focus on any one thing. It’s best to narrow down and only focus on just a few tasks at once. Focus, learn, master your skill and then expand from there.
3. What may be good for someone else may not be right for you. Know that every opportunity is not your door. Avoid joining every business opportunity that comes your way. Have that laser focus on the road ahead and do what’s right for you.
Sometimes, a goal can seem far off and out of reach. But the prudent option is to stay focused and neglect distractions as much as possible along the way.
